The charming village of Millerton in Dutchess County was once a railroad hub of rural New York dating back to the 19th century and is a great destination for a Road Trip: Close Home.
Start your adventure with a peaceful stroll down the historic Harlem Valley Rail Trail. It’s one of the original three rail lines now transformed into a 16-mile bike and walking trail. “It’s terrific, you don’t have to worry about traffic or cars or any of that kind of thing. And it’s just great exercise! It’s flat, no hills,” says Jim Bates, of Lakeville.
Another fun spot to visit is the Millerton Antique Center where you can browse treasures from centuries ago. From oriental rugs, vintage kitchenware, furniture and more…every corner you turn has so much to explore. “People come in and sometimes spend you know two or three hours looking at everything,” says Barbara, Millerton Antique Center Assistant Manager.
Next, pick up a souvenir at the T-Shirt Farm where you can jazz up any piece of clothing to your liking. “You email us your logo, and then we put it on directly on a transfer paper and then we print it through the heat seal machine,” says owner Sal Osnato.
It’s the perfect place to take a piece of Millerton back with you.
