As a labor shortage continues to impact the country, Connecticut is seeing higher unemployment rates than the national average.

Caleb Silver from Investopedia broke down the numbers in Connecticut.

Silver says Connecticut is seeing an unemployment rate of 6.4%, notably higher than the U.S. average of 4.2%.

However, he says counties in Connecticut are doing better than the statewide average.

New Haven has an unemployment rate of 5.6%, Hartford at 5.5%, Fairfield at 5.2% and Litchfield County at 4.3%,

Silver says the strongest sector is leisure and hospitality, which was also the hardest hit amid the pandemic.

He says there has been a 10.9% year over year increase of hiring in the leisure and hospitality sector.

Silver says that arts, entertainment, and recreation grew 19.6%, but government jobs continue to decline, down 6.7% year over year.
