A Selden mother is accused of leaving her four young children home alone for almost nine hours overnight, while she says she was out getting gas and milk.
On Tuesday morning, neighbors called the police after seeing the four kids, ranging in age from 2 to 8, running around the Selden neighborhood by themselves.
Officers were at the home for about an hour before the mother, 38-year-old Robin Reese, returned to the Wayside Lane home. In that time, police say they were able to feed the children and change the youngest child?s diaper.
Reese was arrested and charged her with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Reese's upstairs neighbor Pat Maltese says the police got there just in time, before the kids could have hurt themselves.
?They were out here on their bikes up and down the street,? Maltese says. ?The oldest boy had the baby in the carriage pushing him up and down the driveway.?
Child Protective Services has custody of the children, but a neighbor says they will eventually be staying with their grandmother. Reese is being held on $25,000 cash bond in the Suffolk County Jail.
