The husband of a woman who is charged with dumping her newborn after police say she made up a kidnapping story tells News 12 The Bronx his wife was raped.
Carlos Vidal says his wife, 28-year-old Lucilla Rojas, and their 3-year-old daughter left Mexico and joined him in Parkchester in November. Vidal claims he didn't know Rojas was pregnant and he says she told him she was raped in Mexico. Rojas' husband says his wife's attacker threatened to harm her family if she told anyone. Vidal says he and his wife agreed to put the baby up for adoption.
However, Rojas is now charged with murder, evidence tampering and endangering the welfare of a child. Detectives say Rojas initially told them a man pressed what she believed was a gun in her back Monday and fled with her boy as she took him to a checkup at Jacobi Medical Center. But authorities say the mother's story changed.
Sources tell News 12 The Bronx Rojas later admitted she gave birth December 17 at the hospital and left the premature infant there until New Year's Eve. Sources say Rojas claims she dumped the baby in the trash at 98th Street and Northern Boulevard in Queens after he began choking while on a bus. Police are searching Pennsylvania landfills for the body.
