Bridgeport woman dies after being pulled from Pequonnock River in Trumbull

A 41-year-old Bridgeport woman died after being pulled from the Pequonnock River in Trumbull, police say.
The incident happened at the Pequonnock River between White Plains Road and Quarry Road near the WPCA Beardsley Pump Station around 8 p.m. Thursday.
Police say there were other people in the area who noticed the woman was unresponsive in the water and called 911.
Trumbull police and EMS personnel pulled the woman from the water and began efforts to revive her.
She was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center where she later died.
Police say swimming is not allowed in the part of the Pequonnock River where her body was located.
Officials say there are walking trails and a pedestrian bridge near the river.
Investigators say it is still unclear why the woman was in the area and why she ended up in the water.
Police have not identified the woman at this time.
The investigation remains active.
