A Bridgeport family says they're heartbroken after losing everything they own in a fire Friday night, including gifts under the Christmas tree.
Fire officials say the fire broke out at a home on the 800 block of Connecticut Avenue around 5 p.m.
Firefighters say when they got to the scene, the second floor was fully engulfed in flames and it took the better part of an hour to put the blaze out.
They say all the people in the building got out safely, and first responders rescued three dogs.
The family is
starting a GoFundMe to help rebuild their lives and replace the Christmas presents. Anyone interested in helping the other family who was displaced by the fire can also call Dezmond at 203-218-3895.
They say it's the second time in five years their home has been destroyed by fire right before Christmas.
