A 12-year-old boy fell Thursday from a second-floor balcony at the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, suffering a fractured ankle and minor leg injuries.
Emergency Medical Technician personnel tended to the boy after police say he plummeted 40 feet from the balcony.
"It worries me because I have children of my own - a 4-year-old and a 17-month-old," says Christine Panzarino, of Seaford.
Police say it appears the child intentionally climbed over a bar on the balcony and dangled from it before falling. The 12-year-old was said to be with his father when the accident happened.
Police have not released the boy's name but say he was somehow able to land on his feet. He was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment.
Officials from the Sunrise Mall confirmed that there was an accident there, but would not comment further.
