Boaters ignored the blow-a-hole-in-your-wallet cost of fuel Saturday and filled up their vessels for the Memorial Day weekend.
"It's a beautiful day," said Raymond Reichel, of Treasure Island Marina. "How can you not be on the water?"
Fellow water enthusiasts followed suit, setting sail all around the Island. However, many of them traveled fewer miles due to high fuel costs.
One Freeport man shelled out $875 to fill up, which isn't uncommon with boat tanks taking hundreds of gallons of fuel to fill up and diesel costing around $5.39 a gallon.
Reichel said it's well worth it, considering the alternative. "You can't sit at home and look at your wife all day long and ? be miserable," Reichel said jokingly. "Then you're going to have to appease her."
