At least 10 people were taken to hospitals after a passenger van crashed with a charter bus at the intersection of Route 347 and Southern Boulevard in Nesconset Friday afternoon.

The charter bus was trying to make a left-hand turn into a parking lot at the Smithtown Highway Department yard when the crash occurfed, officials say. They are not sure exactly how the crash happened.

There were nine passengers in the van at the time, but only the driver of the charter bus was on board. The driver was not injured. At least four of the victims were airlifted to hospitals.

Sources say three of the victims are listed in critical condition.
