Health officials announced Wednesday at least one person has died from West Nile virus in Nassau County.
Doctors at Winthrop Hospital treated 75-year-old George Cody, of Carle Place, for two weeks before he died. The death of an 80-year-old New Hyde Park woman is being considered a probable West Nile case.
Cody?s wife Barbara says her husband was in good shape for his age. She thought he had an ear infection before he saw a doctor, she says. The virus reaches his brain and lungs, ultimately landing him on life support.
In total, three cases have been confirmed this season in Carle Place, Bethpage and Uniondale. Three possible cases have been identified in New Hyde Park, West Hempstead and Massapequa.
