Nassau County's GOP party boss has been nominated to be a U.S. ambassador.

The White House says the president has tapped Joe Mondello to represent the U.S. in Trinidad and Tobago.

Mondello was a big supporter of the president's run for office.

His nomination must still be confirmed by the Senate.
