Flooding shuts down portion of Jericho Turnpike in East Northport
Drivers and businesses had a frustrating day in East Northport where a portion of Jericho Turnpike was closed for hours due to flooding.
Jericho Turnpike was closed from Elwood Road to Eldorado Drive beginning in the early hours of Monday morning.
The road remained shut down during the evening rush.
Two people, who had to drive through a parking lot to avoid the water, said they had been stuck for at least 40 minutes.
The New York State Department of Transportation told News 12 at around 8 p.m. that two westbound and one eastbound lane had opened.
Jeff Grossfeld, the owner of Bagel Boss, told News 12 the road closure was not good for business and said “I have been here 24 years. This is crazy!”
The Greenlawn Water District said there was no water main break and said the area has flooded in the past.
