Thousands of people pounded the pavement in Northport Saturday for the annual Great Cow Harbor 10K race.

The 6.2-mile race is considered to be one of the most challenging runs of its kind in the country.

It marked the race's 40th year.

The race supports the Special Olympics, the Veterans Administration and local food pantries.
