Students at Berner Middle School in Massapequa celebrated "Take a Veteran to School Day" Friday.

More than 80 veterans were at the school, including Marine Sgt. Christopher Rossi, Navy Petty Officer Yasandra Tomico and Army Sgt. Mike Passero.

Teacher Noreen Miller started the program seven years ago with some help from her veteran father.

"I think that it's important, especially at a level like middle school, to understand that history is not just something they read in a book," says Miller.
