Police are searching for the driver who hit an elderly woman in Hempstead and left her to die in the road.

Police say the 88-year-old was hit on Peninsula Avenue around 6:30 a.m. yesterday.

The victim was taken to the hospital where she died.

Police have not released the woman's name.
