Suffolk police are joining a statewide sting operation to stop the estimated 50,000 drivers daily who fail to adhere to school bus traffic laws.
Police kicked off Operation Safe Stop, which involves tailing school buses and pulling over offenders. Officials say drivers will be fined $250 and receive six points on their licenses for the first violation. Bus drivers say they see horrendous violations daily and advise drivers to slow down and pay attention. Police say the operation will continue through the end of the school year.
