Suffolk fire and rescue workers responded this morning to 600 emergency calls of crashes and falls connected to the icy conditions.
A wintry mix fell on frozen ground this morning, leaving sheets of ice on roadways and walkways.
Suffolk Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services was flooded with calls for a four-hour period between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The department called Nassau County for aid, but Deputy Commissioner John Jordan says Nassau was inundated with emergency calls as well.
