Thousands of Long Islanders will have to stretch their food assistance benefits at the grocery store.

The pandemic boost for recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) ends on Wednesday, March 1.

An average participating household can expect to lose $95 a month, according to New York state.

A total of 2.8 million New Yorkers rely on the benefits.
