Nassau officials have set the date to begin downgrading half of the county's police precincts. Starting May 1, four of the county's eight police precincts will be phased out to become "community policing centers." As News 12 Long Island has reported, the county is making the changes to save an estimated $20 million. The first station house to be downgraded will be the 8th Precinct in Levittown. It will be folded into the 2nd Precinct in Woodbury, officials say. The rest of the precincts will be phased out gradually over the next several months.New Nassau community policing center plan shows officer increaseVote on Nassau police precinct consolidation delayedSome Nassau residents concerned over police precinct plan
