A mother and her three children were able to escape a fire that destroyed their Dix Hills home Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred on Millet Street North around 3 p.m.

Reports say the homeowner Laura Messina was cooking in the kitchen when the fire broke out.

There were no injuries. A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
