A homeless veteran was charged with attempted murder Tuesday.

Michael Hunter is accused of attacking his sleeping roommate early Monday morning at the Suffolk County United Veterans shelter in Yaphank.

Police say Hunter hit the man several times in the head with a bolt cutter.

The victim is listed in critical condition.
