After operating for more than 60 years, the YMCA of Long Island in Glen Cove is facing the possibility of shutting its doors.
The YMCA's 15-year lease with the Glen Cove Neighborhood Association expires in December.
In order to continue to serve the area, the YMCA says it needs to upgrade its facilities and requires a long-term land lease. So far that has not been achieved.
The Y says it has spent $7.5 million in improvements over the past 14 years. It says it plans to spend more than $1 million for additional upgrades if or when the lease is renewed.
The Glen Cove location is the organization's only facility in Nassau County. It has about 6,000 members.
