Friends and family said farewell Sunday to a 9/11 first responder from Commack who lost her battle with lung cancer.

Taps was played at the funeral for NYPD Lt. Marci Simms in Woodbury.

The 51-year-old spent months searching through the rubble after the Sep. 11th terror attacks. 

Family, friends and fellow officers say she was a true hero. 

Loved ones say they will continue Simms' fight to renew the Zadroga Act and rally for 9/11 health benefits.
