An Islandia family lost their dog in an early morning house fire.

The basement fire broke out just after 2 a.m. on Pine Cone Lane, and was under control within an hour.

Six people were home at the time; two had to be transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
