Bronx debuts new affordable housing bringing seniors together
An affordable housing complex is opening its doors to provide more supportive housing to the elderly.
Mill Brook Terrace Apartments in Mott Haven has been open to low-income seniors 62 and older since 2020, capping rents at 30% of their income and offering 48 units to formerly homeless seniors and residents who suffered during the pandemic.
On Tuesday, the apartment complex opened its doors at a new building to welcome even more seniors.
“If you can bring together a community of seniors that can live together and supported by social workers, it really can transform their lives,” said Paul Freitag, executive director of the West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing.
The Mill Brook Terrace Apartments aren’t just open to senior tenants – seniors in the community are welcome to become members of the building and enjoy activites like crocheting, Zumba, and bingo.
