President Joe Biden announced Thursday that he's deploying medical teams to six states, including New York starting next week.
The plan is to help overwhelmed medical facilities ease staff shortages.
Biden also is planning to hand out higher-grade medical masks to prevent workers from getting infected with the more contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Businesses have been battling staffing issues that have led to bare store shelves, airlines have been delaying flights and some schools have switched back to remote learning.
The president also plans to deliver 500 million free at-home COVID tests to Americans.
Some Long Islanders tell News 12 they haven't been able to find any at-home tests.
