A New York City man who claims the acting chief of the Ocean Beach Police Department and another officer brutally attacked him testified in court Thursday.
Sam Gilberd says he was assaulted by Ocean Beach?s Acting Police Chief George Hesse four years ago after he was given a ticket for littering. Gilberd admitted on the stand he was intoxicated when he was taken to the Ocean Beach police station. When he left the station, he says he kicked the door, which prompted the officers to grab him from behind and attack him.
Gilberd says he remembers being dragged backwards into the station, where he was hit, punched and thrown against the wall. When he fell to the ground he says he was beaten more - and then got kicked in his stomach. He says he blacked out.
Gilberd was taken to the hospital near death with a punctured bladder and numerous bruises.
Gildberd's attorney says Hesse needs to be held accountable.
?The conduct of Mr. Hesse in this particular case is egregious,? says Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla. ?This is an individual who lost his temper and severely stomped Mr. Gilberd.?
Attorneys on the defendants? side had no comment.
