Suffolk County police have fully deployed 75 license plate readers in the community to combat crime.
The license plate readers are up in the 3rd Precinct, which encompasses Brentwood.
County officials say this will not be used to issue violations but instead to keep eyes on plates that are connected to another crime, a crime in progress and to see who is going in and out of the area.
"The reader also provides departments with a significant amount of data to develop clues to where crime is happening and where crime is going," says Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.
The technology was installed in the 3rd Precinct thanks to a more than $1 million state grant.
