Memorial Day starts wet, but dries out with some sunshine in the afternoon in Brooklyn

Rain and a few downpours linger through Monday morning before skies gradually clear, setting the stage for a warm, mainly dry stretch through next weekend.

Forecast:

Tonight
Expect a damp, gray, and chilly night. It will be mostly dry, but there could be a few periods of drizzle or light rain. Areas of fog will make it feel raw and a little gloomy at times, especially late tonight into early Monday morning. Overnight temperatures will settle into the mid-to-upper 50s with light winds.

If you’re heading out tonight, keep a rain jacket handy and allow extra travel time in areas of fog. Roads may become slick overnight, and visibility could drop quickly in spots.

Memorial Day
The holiday starts unsettled with showers and a chance of a rumble of thunder through the morning hours. Some downpours could briefly come down hard before the rain moves through fairly quickly. By late morning into early afternoon, conditions gradually improve with drier skies developing and a much more comfortable feel by later in the day. Afternoon temperatures climb into the low-to-mid 70s.

Morning plans may need a backup indoor option, but the second half of the day looks much better for cookouts, ceremonies, or getting outside. Keep an umbrella nearby early, but you’ll likely be able to ditch it later on.

Beachgoers should use extra caution — dangerous rip currents and rough surf continue through the holiday even after the rain ends. The ocean will look inviting later in the day, but conditions remain hazardous.

Monday Night
Clouds linger, but the wet weather moves out. It will feel milder and calmer overnight with temperatures staying in the low-to-mid 60s.

A decent night to open the windows if you like cooler fresh air, though humidity may still hang around a bit.

Tuesday
A much nicer stretch begins. Expect a mix of clouds and sunshine with warmer, more comfortable conditions settling in. Afternoon temperatures rise into the upper 70s to around 80.

Great weather for getting back outside after the soggy holiday weekend. Light clothing and sunglasses will finally make a comeback.

Wednesday
One of the warmest days of the week with plenty of sunshine and temperatures climbing into the low-to-mid 80s. It will feel more summerlike, especially during the afternoon.

Stay hydrated if you’ll be outside for long periods, and don’t forget sunscreen — the stronger late-May sun can sneak up on you.

Thursday
Mostly sunny skies continue with seasonably warm temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Another solid outdoor day with lower humidity and comfortable conditions overall.

Friday
Mostly sunny and pleasant with highs in the upper 70s.

Near-perfect late spring weather — comfortable for just about any outdoor plans.
