Fire official: Woman airlifted to hospital following Brentwood home propane explosion

A woman had to be airlifted to the hospital following a propane explosion at a house in Brentwood, according to fire officials.
Brentwood Fire Marshal Robert Kuehn says the call for an explosion at a home on Arthur Street came in around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. He says the woman suffered burns to her face, arms and neck.
There was also significant structural damage to the house, so the fire marshal says they will need to determine if the home is structurally sound.
The woman who was burned was the only person injured, but officials say there were other people in the house at the time.
The female victim is at Stony Brook University Hospital. Her condition is unknown.
Brentwood firefighters and Islip Town's Hazmat Team conducted what the fire marshal says was a controlled burn-off to ensure the propane tank was safe.
"Being that there was an explosion in the house and we can't be certain whether or not the tank was compromised, the remaining propane in the tank had to be burned off so that it could be properly secured," Kuehn says.
Kuehn says the propane explosion is under investigation by the Suffolk County Arson Section, but it is too early to determine a cause.
He says there is no danger to the neighborhood.
