A new police-led program in Suffolk County is giving high school students a look at what it takes to be in law enforcement, while also bridging the gap between police and the community.
The Youth Ambassador Program is being spearheaded by Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison and took place Thursday at the Suffolk County Police Academy.
“The whole concept of this engagement is to hear and give a voice out here in Suffolk County,” Harrison says. “It’s important s law enforcement we hear their concerns.”
Students learned about various departments in law enforcement including the K-9 unit and Police Aviation Division.
Harrison says he plans to expand the program to middle schools and elementary schools in the future.
