Mom-owned businesses throughout Long Island were busy on Sunday selling Mother’s Day gifts to members of their communities.
The Best Goodie Bag in Valley Stream is owned by Darlene Edwards, a mother of four who doesn’t mind putting her own celebration on hold.
“I'm here like normal at The Best Goodie Bag with my daughters,” she said. “We're together all the time."
Mother’s Day is an especially busy time for the business, according to Edwards.
“Mother’s Day is very popular,” she said. “Everybody loves their mother, and they always want to give them something special. What is fairly popular this year are bento boxes. They're little cakes with mini cupcakes or strawberries."
Cindy Galvin, owner of Doreen’s Flowers in West Babylon, didn’t mind the influx of customers at her business either.
“It actually fulfills me to make everybody happy,” she said.
Jennifer Deluca, owner of Glam Mom in Port Washington, says her boutique is committed to empowering mothers all year long.
"When you look good, you feel good, and you can conquer anything. Kids, work, juggling a household,” she said.
