Officials say workers will begin to replace a water main in Malverne to correct the brown water problem.
The water main will be worked on near Norwood and Hempstead Avenues.
New York America Water Company says the water is safe to drink.
However, because some of the water mains are so old, there are high levels of iron discoloring in the water.
More than 3 and a half miles of water main has already been replaced in the village.
The mayor says the project may take another year or two to complete.
