A local woman will face animal cruelty charges after the remains of five dogs were found inside of a Fairfield home, police say.
The discovery was made inside of a home at 37 Prince St. Wednesday.
Police say the landlord became concerned over an odor coming from inside of the home.
Once inside, police say the owner of the house discovered five dead dogs still inside of their crates.
Police say they conducted a search warrant after being notified and removed the carcasses of the dogs from the home.
Officials with the Fairfield Police Department say the dogs appeared to be neglected and left to die inside their crates.
They say the bodies of the dogs had been inside of the home for some time, to the point where just skeletons remained.
Police say the tenant who was living inside of the home is involved with an animal rescue agency.
Police are not releasing the woman's name until they officially charge her. They add that the suspect was the only person living in the home.
