Winery owner killed in Riverhead crash
Long Island Wine Country is mourning the death of a winery owner who was killed in a Riverhead crash.
According to police, a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Jason Damianos pulled in front of a Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Old Country Road just before 6 a.m. Friday.
Police say Damianos, of Mattituck, was pronouced dead at Peconic Bay Medical Center.
Damianos owned Jason's Vineyard in Jamesport. His father, the late Herodotus Damianos, was a North Fork wine pioneer and the founder of Pindar Vineyards, the Island's biggest wine producer.
Police say the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, 19-year-old Savanna Lake, was treated for her injuries.
