Around $295,000 remains missing after a Brinks truck dropped money over Route 3 west in East Rutherford Thursday, according to police.
Police say the truck's back door malfunctioned and two bags of money fell out, one with $370,000 in cash and the other with $140,000.
Drivers on both sides of the highway stopped traffic to try and grab some of the money. Police responded to at least one crash because of the incident.
Since the money technically belongs to Brinks, it’s illegal for drivers to keep it.
Only $11,000 has been returned so far.
