West Indian American Day Carnival goes virtual amid COVID-19
The West Indian American Day Carnival is going virtual for 2020 due to the pandemic.
The West Indian American Carnival Association says there will still be a number of events to enjoy in the comfort of people's homes.
The theme this year is "Back to Love."
Viewers will be able to tune in live to view documentary-style clips of Carnival and J'ouvert celebrations, partner messages, performances and more. Masqueraders can still put on their costumes and show the world their homemade designs.
The schedule of events includes:
The International YOUTH FEST 2020 on Aug. 28 from 6:00 p.m.  - 8 p.m.
This event will be a virtual end of summer Caribbean talent showcase that promotes performing arts and cultural diversity for ages 12 to 20.
The NY Carnival BRASS FEST on Sept. 4 from 8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
This event will be New York Carnival’s first virtual music fest, and lets viewers enjoy Caribbean music ambassadors as they bring Soca, Afrobeats, Reggae & Kompa sounds direct to people at home.
New York Carnival ‘ONE LOVE’ VIRTUAL ROAD  on Sept. 7 from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Get ready for Brooklyn's first 'VIRTU-Live' Carnival experience! A coordinated effort by WIADCA in partnership with J'Ouvert City International aims to unite cultural partners, acknowledge supporters and elected officials, honor essential workers and those who were lost as this years' Virtual Marshals.  The day will be led by displays of traditional ancestral characters, short programs, honors and speaking opportunities that will convey the importance of the day's events.
PANOLOGY on  Sept. 26 from 8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Join WIADCA, along with Pan in Motion, for some panyard talk as they delve into the Revolution of the Steel Pan. Log on and enjoy the sweet sounds of steel from the comfort of your home.
