A Wantagh family says an internet-based company that specializes in dog walking and dog sitting lost their dog last month.
Mary Ellen Humphrey says her family trusted Wag! to watch their family dog, Buddy, while they went on a trip to Florida.
While in the custody of the WAG!-approved sitter in Massapequa, Buddy was able to escape the sitter's house on Sept. 20 and has been missing ever since.
According to WAG!'s website, the company is bonded and insured. Humphrey says WAG! put up flyers, posted some online alerts and promised other search services. She told News 12 that she has seen little proof from the company that they are actively searching.
In a statement to News 12, the company says "Wag! continues to work diligently daily to bring Buddy home to his family."
It adds that it has spent over $30,000 on professional dog trackers, posters and online ads, and even hired drone pilots to search the Massapequa Preserve area, without luck. Volunteers not affiliated with WAG! who are searching for Buddy say they are not giving up.
"Buddy needs to come back to us and all of his dog friends," says Colleen O'Brien, of Wantagh.
There have been Buddy sightings in the Massapequa Preserve but so far, the dog remains lost. Anyone who spots the dog is urged to call 516-508-1888.
