Wake held for man shot by police while brandishing pipe

<p>Mourners attended wake services Thursday for Saheed Vassell, the mentally ill Crown Heights man who police shot and killed after he brandished a pipe that officers and witnesses say they mistook for a gun.</p>

Wake held for man shot by police while brandishing pipe
Mourners attended wake services Thursday for Saheed Vassell, the mentally ill Crown Heights man who police shot and killed after he brandished a pipe that officers and witnesses say they mistook for a gun.
Vassell, 34, was killed on April 4. His death led to protests and a state attorney general investigation.
The service was closed to the media, but people outside told News 12 that Vassell was known to be mentally disturbed but also harmless.
A number of mourners wore clothing designed to commemorate his life.
