When voters in the Bronx's 14th District head to the polls on Primary Day, they will be choosing between an incumbent looking to keep his City Council seat and some Democratic challengers.
The 14th District includes the neighborhoods of Morris Heights, University Heights, Fordham and Kingsbridge.
Incumbent Fernando Cabrera has held the seat since 2010. He says if he wins again, he will focus on bringing over 4,000 units of affordable- and low-income housing with the rezoning of Jerome Avenue.
When it comes to crime, Cabrera wants to increase funding for more safety cameras and expand on the "Cure Violence Initiative" in the 14th District, which he says has resulted in effective reduction of gun violence.
On education, Cabrera touts having secured $14.5 million in funding to fix schools' auditoriums, technology, gyms, pools and other facilities to help children succeed in school.
Challenger Randy Abreu was born and raised in the Bronx and points to his years of experience serving in the state and federal government. On housing, he wants to focus on affordable housing and put an end to tenant harassment.
Another big focus for the 14th District is job creation. Abreu wants to demand local hiring and empower small businesses. And on education, he wants to increase funding, vocational training and special programs.
Another Democratic candidate in the race is school teacher Felix Perdomo. According to a campaign YouTube video, he wants to empower tenants and help seniors with affordable housing in the borough.
On education, a big focus for Perdomo is improving after-school programs. And on the topic of crime, Perdomo's goal is to engage the police department with the community.

Voters will head to the polls for the primaries on Sept. 12.
