Video of SUV on sidewalk sparks concerns over O Lounge on University Ave.
A new video showing an SUV barreling down a sidewalk is the latest in a number of incidents involving a club on University Avenue.
The vehicle drove up onto the sidewalk in front of O Lounge near 174th Street as people ran for their lives early Monday morning. News 12 The Bronx does not believe that the driver actually hit anyone, but he drove recklessly around the neighborhood more than once.
Neighbors say the nightclub has a lengthy history of violence. They claim whoever was behind the wheel was probably in the club moments before, saying many from Washington Heights use it as a hangout spot to top off their weekend.
Police sources told News 12 that in the last year, there have been six reported incidents either in the club or just outside it. In fact, there was an assault reported at the location less than an hour before the 5:30 a.m. sidewalk drive.
Although the man who shot the video wishes to remain anonymous, he says he wants to get the word out in hope that the club may be shut down.
News 12 called numbers on fliers to try and find an owner or promoter, but did not receive any calls back and a lot of the numbers did not work.
Community Board 5's district manager says they have not received complaints about the club.
