Ryan Gibbs says he sought help for a migraine. He says doctors discharged him and gave him medication. Gibbs later learned the pain was from a massive stroke.
The pain started for Gibbs when he was tubing on vacation and got thrown into the water violently. According to medical records obtained by Gibbs' attorney Michael Kaplan, an accident while he was tubing started a slow bleed in his neck, resulting in a massive stroke.
Gibbs stayed at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville for four days. He says even though he was still having headaches, doctors wanted to discharge him. He says he begged to stay, but was served his walking papers. The next morning, he was rushed back by ambulance.
Gibbs is on modified duty with the U.S. Department of Labor. Gibbs is prevented from carrying a weapon, serving warrants or participating in raids due to his injury.
Gibbs and his wife filed the lawsuit back in April seeking monetary damages.
News 12 reached out to Lawrence Hospital, but a spokesperson says it is hospital policy not to comment on pending litigation.
A status conference in the case will be held next month.
