Scuba divers took to Port Jefferson Harbor on Sunday to clean up trash from below the water's surface.
The effort was part of Coastal Steward Long Island's Underwater Beach Cleanup at Centennial Park.
"We've grabbed a lot of things that shouldn't be there, they don't belong there," says Ashly Carabetta, executive director of Coastal Steward LI. "We've found area rugs, umbrellas, motors, tons of bottles -- all sorts of debris that makes its way there that can be harmful for marine life, and toxic at times as well."
