Two separate fires burned in the Bronx on Sunday.

One fire broke out at 1381 Bristow Street around 12:30 p.m. The fire shot out the window and spread to the exterior of an adjacent building, according to authorities. One firefighter received minor injuries fighting the blaze.

Another second-alarm fire broke out in a boarded-up three-story building on East 165th Street and Union Avenue. No injuries were reported. The blaze lasted an hour and a half. Witnesses say that mud came out of the hydrants instead of water when firefighters began to work.

Officials say investigations into both the fires and the malfunctioning hydrants are underway.
