Nassau County is considering new fee hikes to balance its budget
Fines for traffic and parking violations -- including red light camera tickets -- could increase by 2 percent, topping out at $95 before administrative fees, if the proposal by Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is approved.
The plan would also hike fines for parking illegally on county property from $100 to $150, charge a $75 fee for unpaid tickets and bill $100 for a distracted driver education program.
Fees will also go up for beach cabanas, golf cart rentals and use of the rifle range.
The county was ordered by NIFA, the state's fiscal oversight board, to bring its budget down by $18 million. These fee increases would generate more than $3 million in revenue each year.
Many of the fee hikes will have to be voted on by the County Legislature, which is expected to happen later this month.
