Traffic change on Pelham Bay street headed for wreck, say homeowners
The reversal of traffic to keep a residential Pelham Bay street quiet has some residents complaining the change is a one-way ticket to disaster.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) changed the direction of traffic on a one-way stretch of St. Paul Avenue last April. The DOT and homeowners on the block say the street was too narrow to handle traffic exiting Pelham Parkway. Drivers getting off the parkway must now use Burr Avenue as a shortcut to Westchester Avenue. However, Burr Avenue homeowners say motorists are being inconvenienced and their street has become congested with traffic.
Community Board 10, which urged the DOT to make the change, is planning a meeting between St. Paul and Burr avenue residents.
