Throgs Neck business owners divided on holiday-light contributions
Some business owners in Throgs Neck are upset over fellow store owners' refusal to donate toward the neighborhood's holiday lights. Store owner John Cerini says local businesses were asked to donate $150 to pay for the lights due to financial constraints. However, some decided to decorate independently, without pooling their money to help the community. Cerini says 50 percent of businesses were unable to contribute last year, and that it went up to 65 percent who were unwilling in 2011. Stores that helped pay for the lights have a sign indicating their involvement in their front windows.
