Teen indicted in fatal Farmingdale crash
A teen has been indicted on manslaughter and assault charges following a May 2014 crash that left five teens dead and two adults injured.
Cory Gloe, 18, of Farmingdale, was indicted on five counts of manslaughter, two counts of assault, reckless endangerment, five counts of criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an incident and reckless driving.
Police say Gloe, then 17, was leaving the Airport Plaza Mall parking lot on Route 110 in Farmingdale after participating in organized street races on the streets behind the mall.
Gloe was stopped at a red light in the lane next to his friend, 17-year-old Tristan Reichle, who was driving with four passengers. Police say Gloe challenged Reichle to a race several times.
Police say when the traffic signal turned green, the two cars crossed Route 110 and were racing each other westbound on Conklin Street when Reichle lost control, crossed the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic and impacted a car occupied by two adults.
Reichle and his passengers Jesse Romero, 18, Carly Lonnborg, 14, Noah Francis, 17, and Cody Talanian, 17, were killed in the crash. The two adults in the car sustained serious injuries.
Gloe's license was suspended and bail was set at $50,000 cash or bond. He is due back in court on Feb. 11.
If convicted of the top charge against him, Gloe faces a maximum of five to 15 years in prison.
