Teen arraigned after allegedly stabbing clerk at Mini Mart in Hicksville
A teen appeared in court today after allegedly stabbing a convenience store clerk on Friday morning in Hicksville.
Syaleek Anderson allegedly stabbed the clerk inside the American Mini Mart. Siraj Ghani, the owner of the store, says his employee was stabbed near the kidney and was bleeding profusely, but was able to run toward the door and trap the alleged attacker as police were called.
The suspect's mother tells News 12 Long Island that he has multiple disabilities and didn't mean to do it. According to his mother, Anderson is 3 foot 9 inches tall, weighs 72 pounds, has limited hearing, and is both autistic and tactile defensive - meaning he acts out when touched. The mother claims her son told her the employee pushed him, which launched the chain of events.
The victim is listed in critical, but stable condition at Nassau University Medical Center. Anderson has been charged with robbery, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
A judge set his bail at $100,000 bond or $50,000 cash. Anderson is due back in court next week.
