Suffolk Beach AdvisoriesBathing advisories have been issued for dozens of Long Island beaches this weekend in the wake of Tropical Storm Fay.
That includes 63 beaches in Suffolk and 18 in Nassau. Stormwater runoff can elevate bacteria levels in the water, making swimming potentially unsafe.
The advisories will remain in effect through Sunday morning.
There's also a risk of rip currents at South Shore beaches today. New York State Parks officials said Saturday morning that due to rough surf and riptides, swimming at Hither Hills, Jones Beach and Robert Moses State Parks is prohibited until further notice.
